RANGELEY – A Madrid Township man faces charges after the dog he was watching left the job site he was working at in Rangeley and killed a goat, police said.
Rangeley police received a call about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday that a dog attacked a family’s pet goat in an outside fenced area on Quimby Pond Road, officer Brian Hughes said Thursday.
The goat had multiple puncture wounds, he said.
Hughes said he located the Rottweiler suspected of attacking the goat at a job site down the road.
The dog was being taken care of by Josh Allen, 26, of Madrid Township, Hughes said. The dog’s owner is Carl Shorey, 46, of Coplin Plantation.
After an investigation, it was discovered the dog had left the work site for a long period of time and tracks showed where it went, Hughes said.
Since the dog was under the watch of Allen, Hughes said, he was charged with keeping a dangerous dog and having a dog at large.
The dog has been quarantined for 10 days as required by state law, Hughes said.
