WILTON – A phoned-in tip Friday led police to two snowmobiles reported stolen from a Weld Road resident earlier this week. One machine was found in Farmington and the other in Carthage, police Chief Wayne Gallant said in a statement.
Newspaper articles about the missing Ski-Doos resulted in information that pointed police to the mini-sled at a residence in Farmington Falls, the chief said. Wilton officer Edward Leahy and Farmington Detective Marc Bowering recovered the machine.
Further investigation by Leahy, Gallant and Franklin County Detective Thomas White resulted in a search warrant for a residence on Main Street in Carthage, Gallant said, where the other stolen snowmobile was found.
Charges are expected after the investigation is completed, the chief said.
The machines, valued at $7,000, were reported stolen Tuesday. Police said they were being kept in a seldom-used storage garage, and the owner was away at the time.
