LIVERMORE FALLS – A Livermore Falls man who failed to give a correct name and birth date to police Tuesday night was being held Wednesday without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail as a fugitive from justice in New Mexico.

Livermore Falls police Lt. Thomas Gould ran a check on a West Virginia plate number Tuesday night and it came back showing the plate and car as being stolen, Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Wednesday.

The information took a long time to come back and the car was again spotted parked at 127 Main St., Steward said.

Gould questioned the driver, who initially gave him the name of William Perry and a couple of different birth dates, he said.

Perry admitted to driving the vehicle and was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a car and refusal to give a correct name and date of birth to a police officer, Steward said.

After talking with Perry’s girlfriend, the man’s correct name turned out to be Willie Sanford Perry and he is 44, he said.

Police ran a check on that name and a warrant turned up out of South Albuquerque, N.M., for felony drug charges, he said.

Perry was charged with the warrant charges as well.

Perry was convicted in the past of felony armed robbery, kidnapping, forgery, theft, felony probation violation and burglaries out of North Carolina, the chief said.

Steward did not know how long the man had been living on Main Street.

A booking officer at the Androscoggin County Jail said Perry was still there Wednesday, being held on no bail as a fugitive from justice and on $1,500 cash bail for the Livermore Falls police charges.
