LIVERMORE FALLS – No one was injured when a pickup truck struck a SAD 36 bus Thursday morning on Route 17.

Bus driver Elaine Melcher, 61, of Jay had put on her flashing lights and stopped to pick up a student, Livermore Falls police officer Rich Cusson said Thursday.

She shut the lights off and started to move when a truck driven by International Paper spokesman William Cohen, 58, of Bucksport passed her and lost control on the snow-covered road and struck the bus, Cusson said.

Cohen told police that he thought the driver was letting him pass, Cusson said.

The bus received damage to the driver’s front bumper and the truck registered and owned by IP received damage to its bed, just behind the cab, Cusson said.

The 10 students on the bus were fine, he said, and the driver was able to continue on her route once police cleared the scene.
