JAY – Selectmen gave the town manager permission Tuesday to have drive-through trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Town Manager Ruth Marden said she would hold the event from 4 to 6 p.m. on Halloween night and would pay for the candy out of her own pocket. She would dress up and sit outside under the light and hand out candy.

She also said she would pledge 10 cents for every child who came through, to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.

Marden added that she would ask other staff members if they wanted to participate.

Chairman Bill Harlow said he would match Marden’s pledge of 10 cents per child.

Selectmen also approved Police Chief Larry White Sr.’s request to accept criminal forfeiture money from a drug raid on School Bus Road this spring. The Police Department will get $5,000, White said.

In other business, selectmen took the following action:

• Denied a streetlight application from Deb Holland for a light on Belmont Road because it didn’t fit the criteria set by the board.

• Denied a sewer abatement request from William Visconti for 23 Church St. because there had been water going to the building.

• Approved a resolution to allow employees to borrow money from their retirement accounts.
