LIVERMORE – Firefighters from a half-dozen towns on Tuesday battled a woods fire believed to have been caused by a lightning strike last week.
From about 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., crews were out in the area of Babb Hill dousing flames that burned through four acres.
Firefighters believe the blaze may have started with a lightning strike last Friday.
“We figure it’s been smoldering for the last few days,” Livermore Assistant Fire Chief Don Castonguay said. “We’ve got it contained for the night. We’ll go back and check on it in the morning.”
No one was hurt battling the blaze. Crews ran an estimated 3,000 feet of hose to reach the flames 500 feet up on the hill.
Firefighters from Livermore Falls, Wilton, Jay, Turner and Canton joined Livermore crews in battling the fire.
