AUBURN – Central Maine Community College is taking applications for its 10th annual Point Guard basketball camp. The boys’ session is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The girls’ camp is Sunday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The camp is designed to educate and improve the skills of tghe point guard through class instruction and on-court presentation. One of the camp’s instructors will be former CMCC All-American point guard Patrick Dempsey.

Softball team holding tryouts
SCARBOROUGH – The Southern Maine Flame fastpitch softball organization will be holding tryouts for the 2010 season. The team competes throughout New England and has won 12 state and four New England championships.
A $100 deposit is required. The deposit if refundable a player is not selected to a team.
Tryouts are Sunday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 20. U10 and U12 teams will meet 2 to 5 p.m. on the first Sunday and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the second Sunday. U14, U16 and U18 teams will meet in the opposite time slot each week.

United Way softball tourney
LEWISTON – The United Way needs your softball team or local business to field a team and play ball, and support a charitable cause in the process! The United Way One-Pitch tournament is an annual event taking place this year on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Randall Road Fields.
Registration fee is $300 per team to raise money for the United Way charity.
Simple guidelines are as follows: Each team needs 10 players in the field, four of which must be female players. Each batter receives one pitch per at-bat. Each team is guaranteed to play in three games during the morning session (games last roughly one hour), and teams are then broken up into brackets for the afternoon with the teams with the best records playing for the tournament championship. The other teams continue to participate in a consolation bracket.

Maineiacs conditioning camp
LEWISTON – The Lewiston Maineiacs are proud to announce their Pre-Season High School Conditioning Camp.
The camp is designed as a progressive seven-session conditioning camp that will focus on overall conditioning and skill development.
Lewiston Maineiacs coach Don MacAdam and assistant coach Jamie Dumont will be the lead instructors for all sessions.
On-ice sessions will be held Oct. 25, 27 and 29 and Nov. 1, 2, 8 and 9 from 6 to 7 a.m. at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Maineiacs goalie camp
LEWISTON – The Lewiston Maineiacs invite participation in a Goaltender Development Institute Goalie Camp. Maineiacs goalie coach Reg Bourcier will be head instructor.
Categories are ADV2 (boen 1997 and younger) and HP3 (’96 to ’92). There will be uip to 12 goalies in each group.
Clinic dates will be Sept. 20, Oct. 10, Nov. 21, Dec. 12, Jan. 3, Feb. 7 and March 6. Times will vary in the morning. Cost is $350 with a 10 percent discount to Auburn Youth Hockey goalies or Maineiacs’ youth season ticket holders. A free online membership to GDI Advantage is included.

Hunter safety course
AUBURN – Auburn Recreation Department announces a hunter safety course for firearm hunters. If you have never held a Maine hunting license or have not had one since 1976, you must pass this course before you may purchase a hunting license.
The course meets five times over two weeks, covering 14 hours of required materiuals plus three hours of strongly recommended work. Attendance at all classes is required. Class space is limited, and you must pre-register.
Topics will include rifles, shotguns, proper handling and safety, survival and first aid, hunter responsibility, landowner relations, map and compass and game identification.
Course begins Monday, Sept. 21 and will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. for the next two Monday and Wednesday evenings. There is also a 12:30 to 3 p.m. class Sunday, Sept. 27, followed by a recommended range event at Androscoggin Fish and Game.
