Captive Elements will host an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the gallery for two resident artists: Grayling Cunningham and Kerry Landry. Cunningham, a longtime Lewiston resident, welds a colorful palette rich in expression and emotion. In a piece titled “It’s not what you think,” for example, a multitude of greens atop blues folding into shades of red and orange pulse from the edges of the canvas to the black center. This continuous echo draws the eye and mind into a whirlwind of thoughts. More than a dozen of his newest works will be on display, including the one, above, titled “Night Sky.” Landry, a Lewiston native, has done many pieces with subjects that are personified in shape and essence. Distortions and blurred lines add to the intrigue of origin. Landry will also show a dozen-plus new pieces. The exhibit runs from Sept. 11 to Oct. 1. Captive Elements is at 25 Landry Road in Lewiston. For more information, call 312-5539.
