NORWAY — A Waterford woman remained at a Lewiston hospital Tuesday night with severe injuries from a vehicle collision on Route 118 last week.

Tami Vehue, 36, was driving near Wiley Road on Sept. 16 when she lost control of her Chevrolet Cavalier and it slammed broadside into an oncoming Jeep Cherokee, Maine State Police Trooper Greg Tirado said.

Vehue suffered multiple broken bones and head injuries, he said, and was flown to Central Maine Medical Center. She was listed in serious condition Monday, Tirado said.

Larissa McAllister, 13, also of Waterford, was riding with Vehue and was treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland and released, the trooper said.

Debra Gagne, 52, of Norway, driver of the Jeep, and her two passengers, 1-year-old twins Devon and Allyson Onos, were not injured, Tirado said.

The accident occurred at 9:42 p.m. as Vehue was rounding a curve and lost control of her car, he said. Gagne, driving in the opposite direction, tried to avoid a collision by pulling her Jeep over and stopping. However, Vehue’s car continued on and slammed broadside on the driver’s side into the front of the Jeep.

The 2002 Cavalier sustained heavy damage; the 2009 Jeep an undetermined amount, the investigator said.

Norway police and fire responded to the scene, along with state Trooper Dan Hanson, who reconstructed the accident. It remains under investigation, Tirado said Tuesday night.
