100 years ago, 1909
While riding their tandem bicycle Saturday night, Fred and Harold Goding of Harmon’s Corner, Auburn, collided with a double team driven by Edward Nelson and were thrown to the ground. Both young men were severely bruised and Fred was unconscious for over an hour and was out of his head all the night. Harold was badly shaken up but not seriously injured.
50 years ago, 1959
Raytheon Company will probably start moving equipment into its Lewiston training quarters about Nov. 1 prior to instructing area workers in the art of making transistors for the constantly growing electronics industry.
Renovations at the training quarters — the old Buick building at Main and Sabattus streets — are being made at a cost of about $50,000. People hired by the firm will be turning out saleable transistors by the time they are put to work at the proposed new semi-conductor plant on the Lisbon Road, slated for completion some time next year.
25 years ago, 1984
Michael Jackson look-a-like Mario Velazquaz, who has his own music video and has performed around the country, will be in Lewiston Friday and Saturday.
Velazquaz, whose dancing moves are said to compare perfectly with Jackson’s, will perform at Andy Valley Health & Racquet Club at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
