MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – Emelie Marcotte, 101, of 342 East Ave. in Lewiston, passed away Sunday, April 26, at her daughter’s home in Florida, with family at her side.

She was born in Madawaska, Sept. 12, 1907, the youngest of nine children born to Honore and Euphemie (St. Amand) Dufour. The family moved to Lewiston when she was 12 years old and she remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On Nov. 8, 1926, she married the love of her life, Albert Marcotte at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston. He predeceased her on June 21, 2000, and has remained in her heart every day since.

She worked for 25 years at the Pepperell Mill, becoming a supervisor and later spent 15 years at Shapiro Bros. Shoe Shop until her retirement in 1969. She was a member of Holy Family Church, the Ladies of St. Anne and the Lewiston Senior Citizens.

Among her favorite enjoyments were knitting and sewing. In their retirement years, she and Albert were fortunate enough to spend winters in Florida, and summers in Maine, for several years. They traveled to many places together including Hawaii, California and Canada. She enjoyed a wonderful life as she witnessed the arrival of television, modern technology, space shuttle launches and so many other historic events.

She was able to celebrate her 100th birthday in good health with family and friends and had so many treasured memories of the many family outings and celebrations shared together as a family. Although her family was her life, she was also truly a lady of faith. She attended Mass faithfully every week until February of this year and continued to pray the Rosary daily until a stroke took away her ability to recall her prayers, though she continued to pray to St. Anne for her help through her last days.

She had expressed in writing that she wished to thank her family and friends who helped her during her final journey on Earth. She wished to thank Terry, Denise and Val for the times spent together and for the care they provided to her in Maine. No longer able to travel, the decision was made to spend her final days in Florida. She thanks Lorraine and Mike for honoring her wishes to remain at home and not be placed in a nursing home. She had included a special thank-you to Sue for staying with her until the end and to Debi and Michael for their gentle care. Knowing her family was there, both in presence and spirit, gave her great comfort. She loved them all, and God Bless them.

She leaves two daughters, Theresa Ouellette and husband, Valdor, of Lewiston and Lorraine Pelosi and husband, Michael, of Merritt Island, Fla.; her grandchildren, Normand Ouellette and Denise Ouellette, both of Lewiston and Susan Pelosi, Debi Pelosi and Michael Pelosi, all of Florida; great-grandchildren, Lori and John Turcotte and Michael Ouellette of Lewiston, and Heather Clemens and Ryan Clemens of Florida; great-great-grandsons, Zackary Ouellette of Lewiston and Brady Koprowski of Florida; a special godson, Wilfred “Pete” Dufour of California; a special friend, Anita Turgeon of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Onizime, Thomas, Patrick, Emile, Eddie and Paul; and sisters, Adeline and Ida.
