GREENE – Leslie Wight, 88, of River Road in Greene passed away on Wednesday, March 18, at her home.

She was born in Lewiston, on July 17, 1920, a daughter of Charles P. and Amy (Hayford) Wight. She was educated in local Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1940. She went on to further her education at Gould Academy for a year then to Bates College, where she received her bachelor of arts degree in 1945, and her master of arts degree from Boston University in 1951.

She, along with her brother Charles, was the co-owner of Motor Supply Co. Inc. in Lewiston and the Motor Supply Corporation in Augusta. She also taught at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Gorham Senior High School and at Walton Junior High School in Auburn.

She was an avid traveler, traveling the United States, Europe and many other places throughout the world. She loved cats and dogs, reading, anything made with chocolate, but more dear to her than anything, was volunteering throughout the community.

She was a member of the Mary Dillingham Maine Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution, holding the title of State Regent from 1962 to 1965, member of the North Auburn Methodist Church, Livermore Church, and most recently the Auburn Methodist Church.

She also served on the board of the North Auburn Cemetery Association, past treasurer of the Barker Arms Tenant Association, the Androscoggin Bates Club, the Androscoggin County Historical Society, Livermore Public Library, Bates Key Club, and the Bates Alumnae Club.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Willoughby Wight; her nephews, Charles T., John H. and David W. Wight; one niece, Pamela Adams; four grandnephews; and four grandnieces.

She was predeceased by her parents.
