LEWISTON – Laurel Louise (Martin) Footer, 68, a resident of Pond Road, Lewiston, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 4, at Central Maine Medical Center, with members of her family by her side.
She was born Jan. 18, 1940, in Sabattus, the daughter of William and Hazel Gayton Martin. Laurel graduated from Sabattus High School in 1957 and was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
On Nov. 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Footer. They made their home in Lewiston and celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. She was a 50-year member of the Wales Grange No. 40 and a member of the Community Free Baptist Church.
Laurel enjoyed knitting and working in her flower gardens in spite of her battle with rheumatoid arthritis. All of her family received mittens and a special afghan made with her loving hands.
She enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting and school events. She was their biggest cheerleader. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and dining out at area restaurants. She treasured the times spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of Lewiston; three children, Katherine Wood of Scarborough, Cindy Mitchell and her husband, Brian, of Minot and Lisa Chartier and her husband, Ted, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Amy Bean and her husband, T.J., of Minot, Matthew Wood and his wife, Michelle, of Biddeford, Angella Ayotte and her husband, Eric, of Poland, Janice Wood of Scarborough, Amanda Mitchell and her companion, Kevin Bryant, of Hebron, and Maegan Chartier of Auburn; and one great-grandchild, Mitchell Bean of Minot.
She was predeceased by her father and mother; a brother, Wayne Martin; a sister, Geraldine Wood; brother-in-law, Raymond; and son-in-law, James Wood.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the ICU unit at CMMC.
