LEWISTON – Joanne R. Baumer, 73, of Woodland Avenue in Lisbon Falls died Monday, Nov. 26, at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born in Anson on May 10, 1934, the daughter of Guy and Nellie Robertson Fowke. She was educated in Madison schools and graduated from Madison High School. She continued her education at Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse.
On June 17, 1967, she married Richard C. Baumer. Together they made their home in Lisbon Falls and raised two lovely daughters. Prior to her marriage, she loved to travel where she practiced nursing throughout the country. She later worked and retired from Central Maine General Hospital as an operating room nurse.
She was a member of the Nursing Alumni Association of Central Maine General Hospital. She enjoyed crafts, especially knitting and sewing. She was fearless in trying new things and always looked forward to new challenges. She was very family-oriented. She never missed an opportunity to be with her children whether in the classroom as a volunteer or simply being there for all the extracurricular activities. She especially enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox with her husband, Richard.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Lisbon Falls; two daughters, Beth B. LeBlanc and her husband, David J., of Auburn and Patricia A. Baumer of Boston, Mass.; her grandson, Joseph B. LeBlanc, whom she so dearly loved; a brother, Victor W. Fowke and his wife, Claire, of California; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Kirk J. Baumer.
