AUBURN – Pauline L. “Polly” Winter, 80, of Weld died Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Hospice House.

She was born in Weld, April 20, 1926, a daughter of Isaac and Idela Wyman Libby. She received her education in Weld schools and graduated from Dixfield High School.

On April 21, 1946, she married Almon Winter in Rumford. As a teenager, she worked at the Dixfield Nursing Home. She later worked at the Pine Knott Woodmill, as a cook for SAD 9 at Wilton Academy, and for many years as a postal service clerk.

She enjoyed swimming and going to the beach at Webb Lake and was instrumental, along with Bessie McIntire, in the formation of the Weld Learn to Swim Program. She was known for saying what was on her mind and for being a fabulous cook. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and music.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Almon, of Weld; a daughter, Fawn Herman, and her husband, Robert L., of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Robert W. Herman of Windham and Anne E. Seeber, and her husband, David, of South Portland; one great-granddaughter, Jaidyn Reed Seeber of South Portland; two sisters, Ethel Perry of Wilton and Kathleen Daley of Dixfield; two brothers, Clinton and Clayton Libby, both of Dixfield; many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

She was predeceased by four sisters.
