Rumford Police Officer Brad Gallant, left, receives a plaque after being named Officer of the Year by the Maine Association of Police. Presenting the award is association President Kevin Riordan, a sergeant with the Old Orchard Beach Police Department. Gallant was nominated by Rumford Police Sgts. Doug Maifield and Tracey Higley, who cited him for his time in schools to keep youth safe. Gallant is also a field training officer who offers his assistance to all officers around him. 

Matt Roy of Rumford, right, is presented the Maine Association of Police’s Heroism Award by association President Kevin Riordan, a sergeant with the Old Orchard Beach Police Department. Roy was recognized for preventing serious injuries or loss of life at the July 6, 2016, fire at Madison Condominiums. Rumford Police Officer Brad Gallant nominated him, saying, “Had Roy not stepped up, made that effort, and been the Good Samaritan we need for our community, I’m confident in saying we would have been too late to save the family.”

Association President Kevin Riordan, a sergeant with the Old Orchard Beach Police Department, presents the award. Adley was nominated by Sgt. Tracey Higley, who said, I have personally watched Adley’s go the extra mile, whether it be for an out-of-town visitor that has a major issue or a local resident.”
