LEWISTON — Police swarmed the downtown late Thursday night in search of a suspect who reportedly attempted to rob a man near the 7-Eleven on Main Street.
The victim told police the suspect had attempted to steal cash from him just before 9:30 p.m. When that failed, the suspect ripped off the victim’s shirt, but the victim held on to the garment and the suspect fled.
Police who responded found the victim in the 7-Eleven parking lot still clutching his tattered shirt.
While some officers searched the area around the convenience store, others were sent to Bartlett Street after they were given the name of a potential suspect. The investigation was ongoing later Thursday night.
The victim was not seriously hurt.
