LEWISTON — Arthur Joseph Carrier Jr., 89, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, at Montello Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston.

He was born March 27, 1927, in Rumford, a son of Arthur J. Carrier and Annette Lemieux Carrier.

Arthur attended Central High School in Providence, R.I. Near the end of World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served on the newly commissioned Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier, the most memorable time while on the ship was their Goodwill Tour to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Arthur and Annie M. Judkins were married Sept. 29, 1951, at St. Athanasius Church in Rumford. He was a communicant of Prince of Peace Parish in Lewiston.

In 2012, they sold their home in Dixfield and moved to Montello Heights Retirement Community in Lewiston, where his wife still makes her home.

He was a barber for 40 years, 30 of that in Dixfield, retiring in 1992. After retiring, they enjoyed many bus tours and trips to Utah to visit their son and his family. They also enjoyed their summer camp on Webb Lake in Weld for 28 years.

He was a member of the Dixfield Lions Club from 1963, serving as King Lion for one year and as treasurer for 25 years, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 100 in Dixfield.

Survivors include his wife, Annie; their children, Stephen A. Carrier of Sanford, Daniel Carrier and wife, Vickie, of Dixfield, Raymond Carrier and wife, Patricia, of Sandy, Utah, and Jane Carrier of Corinth, Vt.; a sister, Martha DiSalvo and husband, Marc, of Barrington, R.I.; a niece and nephew in Rhode Island; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
