FARMINGTON — Maine author Scott Christiansen will present a Big Problems, Big Questions seminar, “Planet in Distress,” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 18, in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital, 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington.
Extreme weather, resource depletion, civil unrest, deep uncertainty: What will you do? Join Christiansen as he reviews, from a Christian perspective, the concurrent accelerating decline of Earth’s natural systems and of the global society man has built. Join him in exploring the big problems and even bigger questions that mankind faces as people begin to seriously ask the vital questions “what do we believe?” and “what will we do?” Reviewing Earth science, societal trends, resource constraint pressures and economic pressures, and comparing what we know is happening with what the Bible says will happen to the Earth may just be a striking experience and a revelation.
Christiansen has a master’s degree in international development from Tulane University and is a published author. His latest book, “Planet in Distress,” was released in May 2012.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
