WATERVILLE – Arnold P. Chicoine, 65, a resident of Elm Street in Waterville, died Monday, July 11, at the Inland Hospital in Waterville, following a long battle with heart disease.
He was born in Livermore Falls, on June 7, 1940, one of 15 children of Donat and Josephine McGuire Chicoine, and was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1957 to June 1960.
He worked for many years for Stub Chicoine Excavation Co., in Livermore. He moved to the Waterville area 23 years ago and worked as a roofer for Maine Roofing for 21 years, retiring due to ill health.
He was a former member of the Lane-Dube AmVets, Post 33 of Jay and a 23-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and more recently drag racing. He also enjoyed the company of his dog “Buffy.”
He is survived by five daughters, Jodie, Joyce, Julie, Amy and Jennifer; a special niece and caretaker, Lisa Holt; two brothers, Norman “Stubby” Chicoine and his wife, Gloria, of Livermore, and Ovilla “Boofy” Chicoine of Jay; four sisters, Dorothy Perry of Jay, Patricia Libby of Turner, Gloria Dunham of Dixfield, and Lois Walton and her husband, Bob, of North Turner; sisters-in-law, Shirley Chicoine of Rhode Island and Rita Chicoine of Livermore Falls; a brother-in-law, Winston Coombs of Livermore; twin granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his longtime friend, Nancy Thibodaux, and also Ann Cormier who was always there to lend a hand.
He was predeceased by his best friend, Danny Pinette, this spring; sisters, Betty Chicoine, Madeline Coombs and infant twin sisters, Arlene and Madelyn; four brothers, Lawrence “Chick” Chicoine, Walter Chicoine, Paul “Tiny” Chicoine and Manny Chicoine.
The family would like to acknowledge the sincere care that was given to Arnold by Dr. Eric J. Freiberger and his staff at Inland Hospital, especially Jason and Karen, and also a special thank you to Teri and Trish who were with him in the Intensive Care Unit.
