Fort Kent’s Austin Theriault took advantage of two last-lap incidents to claim his series-leading fourth win of the ARCA Racing Series on Sunday over the 4-mile Road America road course in Plymouth, Wisconsin.

Austin Cindric and Dalton Sargeant each led on the last lap only to be involved in incidents that allowed Theriault to take the checkered flag and pad his series points lead over Sargeant.

Theriault qualified 11th in his Ken Schrader Racing Ford.

Cindric had the dominant car but got tangled up with Cole Custer in turn one on the last lap, which took both of them out of contention.

Sargeant assumed the lead but slid off the track a little in turn five, ran through some water and that caused his car to spin. Matt Tifft was also gathered up by Sargeant.

“There was no grip in five and it came around on us,” Sargeant said in a report on the ARCA website.

Theriault inherited the lead and was able to hold off Riley Herbst for the victory.

“We were lucky and smart today,” Theriault said on the website. “We made the least amount of mistakes. I knew those guys were fast in front of me and behind me. It came down to not overdoing it, especially on that last lap. Everybody was trying to win the race on the last lap. Turn one was a problem.”

It was Theriault’s 12th top-five finish in 15 races and his eighth top-three and seventh top-two.

The ARCA Series will head to the 1-mile clay oval for the General Tire Grabber 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in Illinois on Labor Day, Sept. 4, beginning at 4 p.m. (EDT).

There are five races remaining in the season.
