Cole Farms 1, Mechanic Falls 0
POLAND — A home-plate collision resulted in an ejection and left Mechanic Falls with only eight eligible players Thursday night, forcing a forfeit with Cole Farms leading 1-0 in the fifth inning of a Zone 3 American Legion baseball game.
Nick Douglass was the hard-luck loser on the mound for McFalls (1-9), allowing only one hit and striking out 10. Cole Farms (2-8) scored its run in the third inning on a walk, a stolen base and a fielder’s choice off the bat of Shayne Curtis.
Chris Bryant notched the shutout for Cole Farms (2-8). Trey Ouellette and Douglass notched Mechanic Falls’ two base hits.
Gayton 14, No. Oxford County 3
RUMFORD — Mekae Hyde was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Joe Sullivan pitched a five-hitter to lead Gayton Post past Northern Oxford County, 14-3, in Zone 3 American Legion baseball Thursday.
Gayton (8-1) scored four runs in each of the first two innings and three more in the third against three Northern Oxford County hurlers. Jeff Keene doubled and Will Emerson drove in a pair of runs for Gayton, which drew a total of 11 walks. Sullivan didn’t issue any free passes while striking out five.
Justin Staires and Connor Blais each homered for Northern Oxford County (5-4).
Bessey Motors 11, Swasey-Torrey 3
PARIS — Kyle Farrar ripped a bases-loaded triple to highlight a six-run outburst in the first inning and send Bessey Motors to an 11-3 victory over Swasey-Torrey of Dixffield.
Evan Humphrey added three hits and three RBIs, while Matt Verrier added two hits and two RBIs. Jake Fillebrown tossed a four-hitter in six innings of work, striking out 11. All three runs he allowed were unearned.
David Guilford hit a double for Dixfield.
Brunswick 8, Andy Valley 1 — After scoring a run in the first inning, Andy Valley was held scoreless by Shane Lizotte the rest of the way as Brunswick pulled away for an 8-1 victory.
Andy Valley (4-6) scored its lone run on a double by David Buzzell and Josh Tainter’s RBI single.
Willie Brown and Ryan Jackson also hit doubles for Andy Valley. Brunswick improves to 6-4 with the victory.
