1913 – 2004

WEST PARIS – Alice M. Copithorne, 90, of Main Street, West Paris, died at her residence on Jan. 22.

She was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 9, 1913, the daughter of James and Margaret (McIlveen) Shorrock. She was educated in Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School and the Maine Medical School of Nursing.

She worked for several years as a registered nurse in the operating room. She later attended the Boston School of Art and in 1955, established the Polly Shorrock Dolls operating in the Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, area until her retirement in 1980. She loved art and sewing.

She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Norway and of the O.E.S. of Marblehead, Mass.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen Wainwright of Marblehead, Mass., and Richard Copithorne of West Paris; two half-brothers, Alan Shorrock and Cliff Shorrock, and one half-sister, Edna Carroll all of Eckville, Alberta, Canada; two grandchildren, Beth Hiller and her husband David of Beverly, Mass., and Tammy Lantyck and her husband Scott of Danvers, Mass.; six great-grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Meagan, Sarah, Katie and Abby; and one great-great-grandchild.
