LEWISTON – Bertha C. Fortin, 90, of Lewiston passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, at d’Youville Pavilion.

Born in St. Philippe de Neri, Quebec, she later came to Lewiston with her parents, Benjamin and Florence Michaud Dionne. She worked at Pepperell Manufacturing Company. After working for many years at Bonneau’s Supermarket, she retired to take care of her in-laws, Octave and Rosanna Fortin and later, her husband’s elderly aunt, Germaine Fortin.

Recently, she lived happily at 100 Campus Ave. where she had many friends. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and their Senior Citizen Group. She was a gifted cook and also enjoyed crocheting, spending time with family and playing pinochle. She discovered her artistic talents when her niece taught her to paint at the age of 70.

Survivors include: her brother, Maurice Dionne and his wife, Berthe; her niece and caregiver, whom she considered as a daughter, Mercedes Gastonguay and her husband, Jean; nephews, Maurice and Richard Dionne and their wives, Rita and Cathy; and cousins, Lisa and Ben Shen; many nieces and nephews and grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, William C. Fortin; by two sisters, Rose-Hilda Lizotte and Simonne Caron; and by four brothers, Oscar, Alfred, Adelbert and Napoleon Dionne.
