Norway – John H. Blair, 88, of Norway died Thursday, Nov. 27 at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.
He was born in Gardiner on April 19, 1915, the son of Herbert L. and Julia Hurley Blair. He was a graduate of Gardiner High School and attended one year at Kennebec Business School.
He was a furniture expediter at G. Fox and Company Department Store in Hartford, Conn., a traffic clerk and permittee for P. Ballentine and Sons Brewery in Hartford and Waterford, Conn., and timekeeper for Bechtel Construction Company at Millstone Power project in Waterford, Conn. He retired in 1983 from the United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn. as a civilian security guard.
He married Eleanor C. Clark in Gardiner on April 14, 1941. He was a member of the Thames Stamp Club of New London, Conn., serving as vice president for eight years, a charter member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Niantic, Conn., transferring to Council 5515 where he had been the recorder.
He was Chairperson of the Commission on Aging and President and trip coordinator for the East Lyme Seniors in East Lyme, Conn. He was a member of the American Legion Post 82 in Norway, the V. F. W. Post 9787 in South Paris and AARP.
He is survived by his wife of Norway; two daughters, Diane B. Doran and Theresa B. Wynne, both of Richland, N.C.; a brother, George of Cape Elizabeth; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
