1930-2003

LEWISTON – Paul A. Cote, 73, of 512 Webster Street in Lewiston, died Sunday, Oct. 12, at the d’Youville Pavilion Nursing Home, following a long illness. Born in Lewiston on January 13, 1930, he was the son of Adrian A. and Florence Doucette Cote.

Educated locally, he attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Lewiston High School, and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Colby College and a degree in law from the Boston University School of Law. On September 13, 1952, he was married to the former Joan Pratt of Auburn.

A practicing attorney, he was a founding partner of the firm of Cote, Cote, Hamann and Fournier.

He was always very active and civic-minded, and at various times served on the Lewiston School Board, the Lewiston City Finance Board and the Lewiston Charter Commission. He also was a former chairman of the Maine State Young Republicans, the United Way of Androscoggin County and the March of Dimes. He served on the boards of Northeast Bank, Secor National Bank and Novametrix Corp.

He cherished time spent with his family and was especially fond of taking them snowmobiling at his camp in Eustis. A natural story and joke teller, he enjoyed being around people and will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends and colleagues.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Joan P. Cote of Lewiston; three sons, Hon. Paul A. Cote Jr. and his wife Pauline of Auburn, John P. Cote and his wife Gwyneth of Westfield, N.J., and Adrian A. Cote II and his wife Judith of Vandalia, Mich.; a daughter, Julie Ann Cote of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Adrienne and her husband Anthony Emmi of Lewiston and Rosemarie and her husband John Butler of Lewiston; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Indiana, Jack and Cynthia.

COTE – Paul. 10/12/03. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Carriage House of the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made in his memory to the United Way of Androscoggin County, P.O.
