1919 – 2003

TOGUS – Doue A. Gagne, 83, of Chamberlain Avenue, Brunswick, died Tuesday, April 15, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Born in Brunswick, Sept. 29, 1919, a son of Arthur J. and Marianne Thibeault Gagne Sr., he graduated from St. John’s School and attended Brunswick High School.

Mr. Gagne worked at the Portland Shipyard prior to serving in the Army during World War II. On Feb. 14, 1946 he married Viola May Arsenault at St. Mary’s Church in Bath.

He worked at Breault Dept. Store, Maine Hardware and for 35 years at Drapeau’s Pharmacy, retiring in 1981. He also worked second jobs at, Glengary Springs, Brunswick Bowling Bowl and Brunswick Laundry. Following his retirement he worked part-time at Demers Funeral Home, from 1981 to 1999.

Mr. Gagne was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church, a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a fourth degree member of the Brunswick Knights of Columbus. He was very active in the church, fraternal organizations and Cystic Fibrosis Organization.

Survivors include seven sons, David A. Gagne of Brunswick and his companion, Cathy Johnson of Florida, Dominic A. and his wife, Susan Gagne of Brunswick, Dexter Gagne of Brunswick and his companion, Elly Lyden of Topsham, Dennis and his wife, Donna Gagne of Lisbon Falls, Daniel and his wife, Debbie Gagne of Bath, Douglas and his wife, Sue Gagne of Topsham and Donald and his wife, Vicky Gagne of Appleton, Wisc.; two daughters, Doris and her husband, Gary Scott of Topsham and Denise and her husband, Pete Lazure of Topsham; two brothers, Anthony and his wife, Ann Gagne of Brunswick and Father Donald Gagne of Lewiston; three sisters, Grace Cloutier of Topsham, Bernadette Dugal of Brunswick and Ginette and her husband, Arthur Beauchesne of Lewiston; one sister-in-law, Louise Arsenault of Bath; 24 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, who died Jan. 14, 1999, two sons, William Gagne and Doue A. Gagne Jr., two brothers, Arthur J. Gagne Sr. and Sylvio Gagne and three sisters, Imelda Tetu, Mary Jane Levesque and Theresa Lachance.
