NORWAY – Barbara P. Andrews, 71, of KAL Shores Road, Norway, died peacefully at home on Monday, May 31, surrounded by her family.
She was born in South Paris on Dec. 7, 1932, the daughter of Toivo and Toini Piirainen. She graduated third in her class in 1951 from Paris High School.
On July 18, 1953, she married Herbert Andrews. For many years she worked as a secretary for Hamilton Cornwall at Cornwall Wood Products. During her husband’s tour of duty in the Navy, she worked as a secretary at Universal Optical in Providence, R.I.
After returning to Maine, she was a legal secretary for attorney Robert Smith for a number of years.
In 1965, along with her husband, Herbert, and his brother and his wife, Francis and D. J. Andrews, they formed Call of the Wild Sporting Goods and RV Sales, which was later bought out and successfully operated for nearly 30 years by Herbert and Barbara before selling it to their daughter Linda and her husband Scott Hill.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and a wide circle of friends. She liked to travel to Florida and Arizona in the wintertime, and traveling throughout the world. She had a love for all animals.
Barbara was loved and will be deeply missed by her husband of Norway; her daughters, Sharon Labrie and her husband Paul of Lee, N.H., and Linda Hill and her husband Scott of Norway; two grandsons, Jon Labrie and Tucker Hill; two brothers, Robert Piirainen of Bridgton and Jack Piirainen of Palmdale, Calif.; six sisters, Betty Taker of Jacksonville, N.C., Sandra Cyr of Ellington, Conn., Katrina Merrill of Ivoryton, Conn., Ilona Farrar of Norway, Anita Leland of Oxford, and Fredricka Collins of Lewiston.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Edwin Piirainen, Eino Piirainen, and Ronald Piirainen.
