NORTH YARMOUTH – Leslie, a life long resident of North Yarmouth, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 15, after battling a long illness.

He served in the U.S. Navy on board the Battleship USS Massachusetts during World War II. He was employed by Burnham and Morrill Co. for 33 years, until his retirement in 1986.

A lifelong dedicated Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed fishing, dancing, coin collecting and exploring nearby historical locations with his metal detector. He had an ever increasing circle of friends and never turned anyone away who needed his help.

He is survived by his children, Audrey Morrison and husband, Ralph, of North Yarmouth; son, Michael Perkins and wife, Sheila, of New Gloucester; Maureen Best of Pownal and Rhonda Dunning and husband, Jessie, of Freeport; 15 grandchildren, Colleen Moreshead, Sharon Leighton, Susan Brown, Patricia French, Basil Morrison, Gregory Morrison, Brenda Moore, Leanna Stackhouse, John Best Jr., David Best, Robert Perkins, Sean Perkins, Ardatha Perkins and Alita Dunning; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Helen (Doughty; his eldest daughter, Alona Dague; his grandson, Jesse A. Dunning III; and two sons-in-law, Bruce French and Gerald Dague.

He was the patriarch of a large, loving and dedicated family all of whom loved him very much. He will be missed by all.
