SOUTH PARIS – Shirley E. West, 77, of South Paris, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

She was born in New Auburn on June 1, 1929, the daughter of Kenneth and Elizabeth Johnson Stevens.

Shirley married Donald West on July 4, 1946, who died in 1979.

Mrs. West worked many years in the cafeterias at Paris High School and Hebron Academy. She later worked at Robinson Manufacturing and retired from there in 1992.

She enjoyed going to Bar Harbor with her parents and her sister. She was a musician who loved to sing, play piano, and also play the harpsichord. Her favorite band was Schooner Fare.

She was a member of the Eastern Star.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth West and his wife, Barbara, of South Paris; a foster son, John Kenneth Newell and his wife, Sheila, of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Michael West and his wife, Carol, of South Paris, Marlene Young and her husband, Eric, of South Paris, and Marc West and his wife, Kelly, of Norway; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Crystal, Bailey, and Julyan West; one sister, Joyce Carmen of South Paris; three brothers, Bill Stevens and his wife, Freda, of West Paris, Lester Stevens and his wife, Barbara, of Poland, and Paul Stevens of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald West; a brother, Jimmy Stevens; a brother-in-law, Harvey Carmen; and a niece, Kathleen Austin.
