Proof sits right downtown in Lewiston.
Librarian Rick Speer has led the city’s library through an amazing time of expanding information technology, massive renovations and public support. For his efforts and two decades of service, Speer will be honored on Dec. 15 with a New York Times Librarian Award during a ceremony in the Big Apple.
The award, which will be given to 27 librarians this year, honors those who have made libraries more accessible and friendlier.
Speer – with the help of the Friends of the Library and members of the library staff – has certainly done that.
The Lewiston library is a great public resource that serves a diverse community with well-planned programs, technology, a knowledgeable staff and a commitment to the city’s history.
The library is worthy of the community’s support, and Speer deserves much of the credit.
