AUBURN — A local man was arrested on a charge of robbing Dunkin’ Donuts earlier in the week, and police say it is the same suspect who attempted to stick-up Domino’s the following day.
Travis Johnson, 30, of 42 Dunn St. was arrested at about 2 p.m. Friday after officers spoke to him about another matter the night before.
Johnson was charged with two counts of robbery. Police said they recovered a toy gun that was displayed when Dunkin’ Donuts on Riverside Drive was robbed on Tuesday.
Johnson was charged in that hold-up as well as an attempted robbery at Domino’s Pizza on School Street on Wednesday. In that heist, police say the suspect kept his hands in his pockets while demanding cash, but was frightened out of the business when a customer walked in.
The same day that occurred, Roopers on Main Street in Lewiston was robbed by a man who was said to have brandished a handgun. It was unknown if there was a connection between that robbery and the pair in Auburn.
On Thursday night, Auburn police officers talked to Johnson about an incident not connected with the robbery. During that interview, officers noted that he fit the description given by witnesses to the robberies.
“Good solid police work led to this arrest,” said Auburn Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen. “Patrol officers recognized that Johnson matched the suspect description when they spoke with him last night on an unrelated matter. They forwarded his name to the detectives who were able to conduct several follow-up interviews with witnesses and found enough evidence to charge Johnson with the robberies.”
Johnson was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, where he was being held on $50,000 bail. He will be arraigned on Monday.
