I am writing to express my strong support and appreciation for the Turner Center for the Arts. I was dismayed to hear that this young and vibrant town-sponsored organization may lose its space in the beautiful Leavitt Institute building and have to close its doors.
I’ve loved Turner ever since I was a child, passing through frequently on my way from Canton to Lewiston, stopping at farm stands, admiring the river and especially the beautiful Jersey cows right along Route 4. As an adult, I am delighted to return to the town to be able to take music lessons with Pam Weeks at the Turner Center for the Arts.
I buy gas in Turner, shop at the stores, go to the local farm store and patronize the post office. But more to the point, the Center for the Arts provides both a destination and home for residents of the town and lucky visitors, such as myself, who appreciate the ability to study and enjoy music and the fine arts in such a great setting!
It’s a rare treat, pays for itself, and is staffed by volunteers.
Residents of Turner should vote “no” on Article 6 at the town meeting in April, and save the Center for the Arts. It also supports the local economy.
