I live in this community and work with the poor on social services. On Feb. 10, at the Democratic caucus, there were some Bates students who showed why many people in Lewiston do not like them.
During the time the mayor of the city was talking, the students were making jokes and talking out loud with no respect for anyone who was not in their “camp.”
They looked more like a mob than students from a prestigious college.
Bates officials should know that the citizens of Lewiston, whom I spoke to yesterday, think that the students at Bates are foreign and alien to the desires and plight of the actual residents of this community.
Those students should feel ashamed of such a display of arrogance in front of the people of Lewiston. Their actions showed me why other youths in this city despise the arrogance and disdain that so many Bates students have for our community.
