Cal Thomas wrote a great column: “Global warming presents opportunity for capitalists” (Oct. 20).

In the ’70s, a president gave us a message about being a slave to the oil industry, that all of us should sacrifice and find alternative energy. As always, the American people did not want to hear that, so get rid of the messenger.

Al Gore gets the Nobel Peace Prize…for what? Where was Al Gore and others when this country needed to start alternative energy in the ’70s? After the fact, 30 years later, Al Gore gets the Nobel Peace Prize? What a joke.

If the American people had followed President Jimmy Carter’s advice and did what had to be started in the ’70s – alternative fuel programs – we would now be living in a very different world, and much for the better.

President Carter was the last of the people’s presidents. Corporate powers will not let another person like Carter run this country.

Liberals and conservatives can be assured that the next president will be a puppet to the corporations.

The days of Teddy Roosevelt and Jimmy Carter are gone.
