I recently read about Auburn schools letting kids go home at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. (Sept. 6)

I don’t think that the schools should let students out at 11:30 a.m. about 25 days during the school year. My school only has five days when we go home early, and when we do, we leave at about noon or a little after. That means we only lose about 10 hours out of the school year. Auburn loses about two to three hours a week.

Why can’t the teachers work on things after the whole school day is done? School ends at about 3 p.m., so it’s not like they will miss dinner or anything. My parents don’t even get home until around 5 p.m. or after, and they don’t miss dinner. Most parents don’t. When the kids get out of school early, the parents either have to take time off or pay a babysitter to watch their kids. Some parents can’t afford to pay a babysitter, so some kids are left alone.

Why should parents and students suffer from something that shouldn’t even be happening? I don’t know about other people, but losing all that time and education doesn’t make much sense to me.
