People of Maine please take notice! The column by former Dixfield Rep. Randy Hotham in the Sun Journal of Sept. 2 was quite precise and to the point.

The fact is Maine needs more people like Hotham. The Legislature is by far too large. It must be reduced in area, and size. Legislators are too often swayed by special interests and lobbyists. We, the people of Maine, need to get involved with our local representatives on a regular basis over issues that pertain to us.

The city of Lewiston and the state of Maine is overtaxed. I am retired and on limited income like many of us; the cost of living is getting out of hand. It is getting too expensive to live in Lewiston, as well as in this state.

The government needs to cut its fat budget.
