One wonders if the fundamental cause for the disasterous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan isn’t constitutional in nature. The president is our chief executive, but he is also the commander-in-chief of all the military services.
As such, he is beholden to the most mighty military-industrial complex in the world, which played a decisive role in his election, even when those interests are at odds with the will of the people here and abroad, as they have been for some time.
In consequence, he may have divided allegiances and be forced to subvert the democratic will of the people, in service to policies championed by some of his most ardent supporters. Might this not mean, then, that the only way to stop these wars and restore peace and democracy for all is impeachment and constitutional revision?
