I am supporting Dave Emery for governor in the June 13 Republican primary. He is an experienced leader, having served in the Maine Legislature, the U.S. Congress and as a former deputy director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency during the Reagan administration.

We need a governor who will assure accountability in state government and manage Maine’s $5.7 billion of debt. Emery wants to create an Office of Inspector General who would oversee the financial management and practices of state government. He will require a comprehensive state audit by an independent, nationally recognized accounting firm, which will provide an objective analysis of Maine’s finances. In addition, Emery wants to establish a zero-based budget procedure with the Legislature that will assure a thorough review of priorities.

Emery’s approach to solving problems will be crucial in winning the Blaine House.
