I think that some people can be very shortsighted sometimes. They fail to see the overall effect or good that an idea might have when they do not feel that it directly affects their own well-being or pocketbook.

I see the generator switch purchase by the Poland School Committee as a very good idea. Not only will it keep a short-term power outage from spoiling the school’s food stores, but it will also provide power in the event of a catastrophe.

I view the schools as community resources that can be utilized as emergency management tools. Should we ever need to shelter and feed a large number of people due to an unforeseen circumstance, we would be able to do so.

Unfortunately, these are the times we live in.
