After watching “Identity Theft: The Michelle Brown Story,” I’ve thought a lot about identity theft. It hurts many people, not physically but emotionally.

A total of 27.3 million Americans have been affected by identity theft. Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in our nation today. Here are three things to reduce the risk of identity theft: Sign your credit cards; only carry cards you need; and never write your PIN or Social Security number on anything you are going to throw away. There are Web sites available if you want to know more.

I think that people should be informed about identity theft, know how to prevent it and know what to do if it ends up happening to them.
