I am writing in response to a letter I read in the Sun Journal Oct. 1. The letter referred to a state biologist and her connection with a TV ad against the bear-baiting issue. Since she is a state biologist, I believe she knows what’s best so I think she is the one we should listen to. She went to school and got an education for that line of work.

Second of all, I think she has a right to protect her job. Think about it. If we were to stop hunting bear, would we need a biologist, or could we afford one with the loss of money from hunting licenses and bear stamps? We could trade our biologist for animal damage control officers but who is going to pay them, our tax dollars?

I don’t think we should be voting on an issue like that in the first place. That is why we have biologists.

I would much rather sit down to a bear roast then I would a lobster. And they are baited and trapped and put in a tank in a grocery store until someone buys them, and then they are dropped into boiling water. What effect would it have on the state of Maine if the lobster industry got shut down?
