FARMINGTON FALLS – LEAP, Inc. will hold its annual golf tournament Sunday, Sept. 14 at Sandy River Golf Course. All proceeds will benefit the non-Medicaid funded programs of LEAP, a non-profit agency providing community and residential support to people with cognitive and developmental disabilities and their families.

The tournament begins at 1 p.m., with a barbecue and refreshments to follow. Registration is limited to 72 players, and prior reservations are strongly recommended. Same-day registration will start at 11 a.m.

Pine Cone Open tennis tournament

SOUTH PORTLAND- The Pine Cone Open Tennis Tournament, sanctioned by the Maine Tennis Association, will be held the weekend of Sept. 6-7 at the South Portland High School courts.

Competition will be held in men’s open singles and doubles, with play beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Baseball tryout, hitting camp scheduled

TOPSHAM – Coast to Coast Baseball invites local players ages 10 to 18 to its tryout and hitting camp at The Bat Cave indoor turf facility at 20 Atwood Rd. on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Tryout is $25. Hitting camp is $50. The cost of attending both sessions is $65.

Youth basketball club welcomes players

SACO – MBNation/Maine Hoops Basketball Club announces that it will be accepting players of all abilities for placement in its Session I program.

The club program is open to boys and girls in grades 4-12. Included in the program are team participation in two leagues, weeky practices and skill sessions, uniforms, sneakers and fitness facility membership.

Programs will not conflict with school team commitments.

Evaluations for team placement will take place Sept. 27 and 28 for boys and Oct. 5 for girls.

LISBON – There will be a men’s slow-pitch softball tournment Sept. 6 at Pinewoods Fields.

A-L YMCA field hockey starting

AUBURN – Auburn-Lewiston YMCA announces that registration for the 2008 Field Hockey program begins Sept. 2. Registration may be completed at the front desk.

The program runs from Saturday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Oct. 18 at Auburn Middle School. Athletes are broken up into three divisions: Pee Wee, grades 1-2; Junior, grades 3-4; and Intermediate, grades 5-8.

Practices start at 9 a.m. and run until 10 a.m. for the Pee Wee Division and 11:00 a.m. for the Junior and Intermediate Divisions. Participants will receive the fundamentals of field hockey through a combination of skills, drills and scrimmages.

Players must provide their own stick, shin guards and mouthpiece. Everyone will receive a certificate and a YMCA Field Hockey T-shirt for participating in the program.
