AUBURN – The Independent Pocket Billiards League will hold its awards ceremony Sunday at New Auburn Social Club.

The gathering will run from 10 a.m. to closing time. Awards are scheduled for 11 a.m., with food at noon and a tournament at 1 p.m.

The tournament is restricted to league players, but all guests are welcome for the celebration.

Dixfield Legion baseball tryouts next two Sundays

DIXFIELD – Dixfield Swasey-Torrey Post No. 100 American Legion baseball will hold its inaugural tryouts the next two Sundays, June 8 and 15, at Harlow Park next to Dirigo High School.

All boys ages 15 to 19 in the Dirigo school district and surrounding towns without a Legion baseball affiliation are welcome. Tryouts are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m.

University of Maine Hall of Fame nominees

ORONO – The University of Maine is accepting nominations for its Sports Hall of Fame. Nomination forms are available for download at www.GoBlackBears.com or by calling 581-1130. The deadline for 2008 nominations is Monday, June 16.

In order to be eligible for induction, nominees must be unaffiliated from the university for five years. A complete list of previous inductees is available on the web site.

The criteria for selection into the Hall is achievement in the athletic program, but other factors also are considered. They include character, leadership and integrity as well as non-athletic service to the University community.

The 2007 class included Andy Bedard, Kevin Buckley, Mike Flynn, Ed Barrows, Garth Snow, Vanessa McGowan and George Wood.
