LEWISTON – Emma Byrne, a 4th grader on Lewiston Rec. cross country team will be competing in the USATF’s National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship in Lawrence, Kan., on Dec. 8.

Emma finished her first cross country season, placing 10th in the state middle school division. She then progressed through USATF Junior Olympics, placing third in the Maine Championship in August, which qualified her for the Regionals.

At the Regional 1 Championship in Long Island, N.Y., on Nov. 11, Byrne qualified in the 9-10 bantam girls’ category by finishing 13th in the 3K race. The top 20 runners qualified for the national meet.

Emma, with the help of her sister Marley, has been training for the challenging NCAA course at Rim Rock Farm.
