WINTHROP – Mike House and Pitcher Torey Carr sparked the Augusta Red Sox to a 12-2 victory over the Kennebec Indians Sunday in the Central Maine Men’s Senior Baseball League.
After the Indians took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Shane Benedict, Carr settled down and allowed just 4 hits, striking out 8 and issuing no walks over the next 6 innings. It was his fifth win of the season. Jim Morris hurled the last 2 frames.
The Sox struck for 4 runs in the last of the first to take command. House led off with 1 of his 3 hits, and eventually scored on a Josh Nichols RBI single. Brett Witherell also drove in a run during the uprising.
House was the big stick with 2 triples. He scored 4 runs. Witherell finished with 3 safeties. Adding 2 each were Carr, Dave Wilson and John Bourque.
Benedict collected 3 of his team’s 5 hits.
It was a fine defensive effort by the Sox who committed no errors and turned a double play.
The Red Sox, 8-5, will host the Boothbay Dodgers Sunday at 9 a.m. at Winthrop High School for its final regular season game. The Indians finished the season at 5-9.
