PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Chuck Lenahan, who grew up in Mechanic Falls, has received national recognition as the head football coach at Plymouth Regional High School. Lenahan was recently named 2004 Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High School (NFHS) Coaches Association.
In January he was informed that he was selected as NFHS District I Coach of the Year to make him eligible for the national honor. The NFHS consists of 8 districts nationwide. District One is comprised of the New England states plus New York and New Jersey.
Criteria for coach of the year includes career record, community service, involvement in other school activities, involvement with the profession at local, state and national levels, and the candidate’s basic philosophy of athletics.
During Lenahan’s 34-year tenure as the Plymouth coach, the Bobcats have won numerous championships. His coaching record is 265-63-1.
Lenahan attended Mechanic Falls High School from 1958-1961. He excelled at both baseball and basketball but the school had no football team. He later played football for Plymouth State College.
The son of Francis and Josephine Lenahan of Mechanic Falls, he and his wife Carol, have a daughter, Bridget.
