TURNER – SAD 52 Adult and Community Education is offering several summer programs in a variety of sports.

Basketball summer program for SAD 52 girls entering grades 8 to 12 will begin June 16. There will be practices to work on skills and learn about the program. Games will be played on some Tuesdays and Thursdays with practices on Mondays and Wednesdays. Field Hockey also starts June 16. Players will need transportation, water, cleats and a green shirt.

Girls soccer summer program begins June 22. To prepare for the upcoming fall soccer season, girls entering grades 7-12 are encouraged to take part in this 10-game summer program. Players will be able to work on their skills and become more familiar with the team’s philosophies. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Players will need to supply personal soccer equipment and a water bottle. Boys soccer program for grades 9-12 will begin June 23. Practice schedules will be determined at a later date. Games are on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Players need to provide a water bottle, cleats, mouth guard and shin guards.

Soccer Camp for children in grades K-6 starts July 13. This week-long camp will focus on improving skills, strategy and knowledge of the game. Coaches will be assisted by LAHS players to ensure low coach-to-player ratio. Major League Soccer Camp commences July 27 and is a training and educational provider with its exclusive unique Strengths Based Coaching, focusing on the physiological aspects of the player. Dirigo summer hoop camp slated

DIXFIELD – Dirigo High School boys’ varsity basketball coach Gavin Kane announces that he and his coaching staff will conduct a summer hoop program for boys and girls entering grades 6-12 next fall.

The clinic will be set up differently than in the past. The schedule is as follows: High school girls’ clinic – For students entering grades 9-12. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:45 to 10 a.m., June 17 through July 24; High school boys’ clinic – Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:15 to 11:30 a.m., June 17 to July 24. Boys’ middle school clinic – For students entering grades 6-8. Tuesday and Thursday, 8;45 to 10 a.m., June 18 to July 16; Girls’ middle school clinic – Tuesday and Thursday, 10 to 11:15 a.m., June 18 to July 16; Open gym – Tuesday and Thursday for individual offensive work, 11:15 a.m. to noon, open to all age groups, boys and girls. Registration forms may be picked up in SAD 21 schools. High school age players may pick up forms in Coach Rebecca Fletcher’s science room at the school.

Ingersoll Arena staying open all summer

AUBURN – Ingersoll Arena announces that it will operate throughout the summer, providing youth skating, adult hockey leagues and clinics.

The arena’s short-term goals include expansion of locker rooms, the addition of new ones, the construction of a warm spectator room, installation of rubber matting, new lighting and an improved sound system.

Boys and Girls Club hosts Badges to Baseball

AUBURN – Area youth are invited to play ball, learn about healthy lifestyles and get to know their local police officers at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s Auburn/Lewiston Clubhouse this summer.

The club is offering a free summer-long program, “Badges to Baseball,” for youth ages 9 to 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays from June 10 to August 19. The program is sponsored by the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and features weekly lessons about healthy eating, sportsmanship and character development. Participants will play quickball, a fast-paced version of baseball similar to wiffle ball and designed to make the game more fun for everyone, regardless of skill level.

Dixfield Legion baseball holding bottle drive

DIXFIELD – Dixfield Swasey-Torrey Post No. 100 baseball will hold a bottle drive Saturday, May 30 beginning at 9 a.m. Players and volunteers are asked to assemble at Harlow Park. For more information, call 562-4616.

Auburn Legion sign-ups

AUBURN – William J. Rogers Post 153 (former New Auburn Legion) will hold American Legion baseball player registration and tryouts at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pettengill Park. Rain date is Sunday at the same time.

Players must bring an original copy of their birth certificate. The team is open to all Auburn residents born in or after 1990.
