Lewiston High School’s golf team knows full well what to expect from Gardiner each time the two schools face off.
Gardiner No. 1 Ryan Gay started his senior season coming off of one of the best summers possible, having won the Maine Amateur title at Biddeford-Saco Country Club.
So when the best amateur in the state visited Martindale this week – no offense intended – Eric Hall, Lewiston top golfer, drew the short straw.
Hall kept it close, though, with Gay taking home a 3-and-2 match victory.
But the rest of the Blue Devils picked Hall up. Gay’s point was the only point Gardiner earned as Lewiston upended the Tigers 8-1, including a 167-187 margin in team medal.
That team has medal
Due to the quirky scoring system in the KVAC, Bangor came away with a win this week over Mt. Blue at Wilson Lake, despite the fact that the Rams won just one of five matches.
Bangor earned five points – the minimum to earn a match victory – with one match win, and two ties, and by besting Mt. Blue in team medal by one stroke, 166-167.
