LIVERMORE FALLS – It is no secret that Livermore Falls loves to run the football. And it was no surprise that the Andies’ ground attack worked so well in a Class C Campbell Conference game.
Kyle Stebbins ran for 148 yards on 20 rushes and scored three touchdowns as the Andies rolled to a 40-14 win over Madison at Griffen Field on Friday night.
Livermore Falls (2-1) was led by Chandler White (130 yards, 17 rushes) and Stebbins. The youthful Andies ran behind a revamped offensive line, including first-year starters Zach Brochu, center Dillion Newcomb, guard Sam Chabot (interception) and Brendon Bachelder.
“These guys are learning,” Andies coach Brad Bishop said.
“Our attack is pretty simple, and it is amazing what you can accomplish when you don’t make mistakes, like penalties. In the second half, we wanted to eliminate them and play clean football.”
The Andies got things going in the third quarter as Stebbins plunged in from the 1-yard line and kicked the extra point for a 21-0 lead. The Andies forced a punt and received good field position. Quarterback Nate Michaud rolled right and threw a 5-yard TD to Alex Rose.
White and Jeff Ryder scored TDs on runs of 54 and 49 yards, respectively.
“A win was what we wanted,” White said. “It was definitely No. 1 on my list. I followed some great blocks by our linemen. On defense, the difference was that we read our keys to counter Madison.”
Madison (0-3) finally got going in the fourth quarter with TD runs by Lucas Libby and Joe Hayden. The Bulldogs were one for nine on third down.
Stebbins ran for a 62-yard TD on the first play from scrimmage. The senior added a 3-yard TD for a 14-0 lead at halftime.
“We ran the ball well,” Stebbins said. “Our Buc series and cris-crosses were effective”
